How to sell to customers in Ireland

Cards issued to Irish households made €3.40 billion of online payments in August 2026. Orders up to €150 can use the EU IOSS scheme to collect 23% VAT at checkout, but Revenue says non-EU sellers must appoint an EU-based intermediary to use it, and a €3 customs duty per item type applies from 1 July 2026. Amazon.ie opened on 18 March 2025, and YouTube's ads reach 80.1% of the population.

  • PayPal through Stripe is only open to Stripe accounts in a list of European countries (including Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Ireland, the UK, Switzerland and Norway); sellers based elsewhere, such as the US, must connect their own PayPal account instead. 3

Import tax and duty on parcels

  • Orders of up to €150 shipped to Ireland from outside the EU can go through the EU Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS), which lets the seller collect VAT at checkout and file one monthly VAT return in a single EU country. 4
  • Irish Revenue says non-EU suppliers need to appoint an EU-established intermediary to use IOSS; when IOSS is used, customs does not collect import VAT on arrival and no VAT is charged on the €3 duty. 5
  • From 1 July 2026 the EU charges a temporary €3 customs duty on parcels worth up to €150 imported from outside the EU, per item by tariff classification (3 T-shirts and a watch = €6), declared and paid by the seller or importer. 6
